Modi Boxi Pro Pack Photo Contest Founder's Choice Winner - Raid the Roach!

We are excited to announce that Raid the Road was selected by Jeff as his Founder's Choice winner of the September 2024 Modi Boxi Pro Pack Photo Contest!

I was able to catch up with Raid the Roach on Discord to talk about the build!

Trapper@Modi Boxi: Congrats on an excellent build. Jeff told me that your build caught his eye right away. Tell us a little about yourself and how you got started with 3D printing?

Raid the Roach: Hi there! My name's Paul, I'm a Systems Engineer that recently dove into the world of 3D printing about 2 years ago, primarily to print functional organization bits to make my life a bit easier. Started out with an Ender 3 S1, moved up to an Ender 5 S1 shortly afterwards, and then early this year finally grabbed a Bambulab P1S and haven't looked back!

Trapper@Modi Boxi: I think we all end up with a Bambu and never look back! I also started with an Ender and then went to Bambu. After that, my Modi Boxi abilities greatly increased!

Speaking of, how did you first hear about Modi Boxi and what made you jump into the community?

Raid the Roach: I found Modi Boxi through the Kickstarter campaign. I was looking for ways to organize my various tabletop games and the modularity that Modi Boxi provided was a clear and easy choice.

Trapper@Modi Boxi: That's great! We are happy to have you from Kickstarter and now into the Pro Pack! We've added so many new pieces and we plan to keep adding so many more. What inspired the PRO Pack build you submitted for the contest?

Raid the Roach: I'm a big Star Wars fan, and love TCGs. Star Wars Unlimited has been my primary game since it launched in March, and I've been printing various Modi Boxi's to store my cards to bring to my local events.

The Side Cars took the modularity to a totally different level, allowing me to be flexible in the amount of cards I bring by swapping side cars as needed instead of transplanting all of my decks/tokens into a new box every time.

Trapper@Modi Boxi: Yeah, it was a very cool idea to hang a bunch of smaller Boxi's together like that. A very unique design! Are there other builds/projects you’re working on with Modi Boxi? Pro or otherwise?

Raid the Roach: I'm currently working on more variants of the Side Car tower that I submitted. I plan on buying the commercial license for Modi Boxi now; the current Side Car tower build has gained a lot of interest from my local game stores and community.

Trapper@Modi Boxi: Oh wow, well that is really cool! Definitely let me know when you are ready to upgrade to commercial. We can get you a discount and add you to the resellers page!

As you dive into the world of commercial Modi Boxi distribution, what’s one thing you’d like to see added to the Modi Boxi system? Maybe something that would make even more creative builds possible?

Raid the Roach: I really would love to see small parts trays that fit in the Side Cars. The dividers are great, but using them with tokens can sometimes be a challenge with the smaller space. If I had the curved bowls that the small parts trays offer, it would complete my side car builds perfectly.

Trapper@Modi Boxi: Ahhh... very cool idea. Yeah, small parts trays would make it easier to scoop out vs. the DIY trays. Got it.

Before we sign off, any social media accounts or other non Modi Boxi projects you want people to check out?

Raid the Road: I'm pretty active in various Discord's around Star Wars Unlimited, and might be starting up a podcast with a few of my locals based around the game. Keep an eye on my Twitter, @raid_the_roach, when we start producing content I'll share links there!

Trapper@Modi Boxi: Super cool! Well thanks for taking the time to speak with me and congrats again on winning one of the photo contest prizes!
