If you’re new to Modi Boxi, you may be wondering which of our three main storage systems is right for you.
The simplest way to think about them is this:
Modi Boxi Core and Modi Boxi XL are vertical storage systems. Modi Case is a horizontal storage system.
All three are modular, 3D-printable solutions built to organize gaming and hobby gear, but they approach storage in very different ways.
Modi Boxi Core: The Original Vertical Storage System
Modi Boxi Core is the foundation of the original Modi Boxi system.
It includes our Small, Medium, and Large Boxi sizes, giving you a modular system that can grow with your collection.
With Core, your storage is primarily vertical. You build upward, stacking trays, holders, shelves, drawers, and other components on top of one another inside your Boxi.
Think of it like a highly customizable toolbox. Pick it up by the handle, carry it where you need it, set it down, and access your collection from the top.
If you want maximum flexibility across a wide range of projects and printer sizes, Modi Boxi Core is the best place to start.
Modi Boxi XL: Modi Boxi, Only Bigger
Modi Boxi XL uses the same basic philosophy as Modi Boxi Core: vertical, stackable storage that you carry like a toolbox.
The big difference is right in the name.
XL gives you an extra-large Boxi format designed to take advantage of larger 3D printer beds and provide substantially more room for your collection.
That makes XL especially useful when you want to store larger miniatures, bigger armies, oversized board game components, terrain, or simply a lot more gear in one place.
If you already understand Modi Boxi Core, think of XL as the same style of system with considerably more room to work.
If your reaction to Modi Boxi Core is simply, “I need a bigger one,” Modi Boxi XL is probably for you.
Modi Case: Horizontal Storage with Slide-In Trays
Modi Case approaches storage from a completely different direction.
Instead of stacking your collection vertically, Modi Case stores your gear horizontally using slide-in trays.
Think of it more like a briefcase than a toolbox.
Your trays slide into the case side by side and can be removed individually when you need them. The hinged case gives you easy access to everything while still creating a portable system you can close up and carry with you.
This makes Modi Case especially useful when you want quick access to individual trays or want your collection organized into separate horizontal layers.
If you like the idea of pulling out exactly the tray you need rather than digging down through a vertical stack, Modi Case is probably the system for you.
So Which One Should You Choose?
The easiest question to ask yourself is:
Do I want to store things vertically or horizontally?
Choose Modi Boxi Core if you want our original modular system with Small, Medium, and Large Boxis that stack vertically and carry like a toolbox.
Choose Modi Boxi XL if you want the same vertical Modi Boxi approach, but in a much larger format designed to take advantage of larger printers.
Choose Modi Case if you prefer horizontal storage with removable slide-in trays inside a briefcase-style case.
There isn’t one system that is right for every collection. That’s the point.
Whether you want a compact toolbox, a massive vertical storage tower, or a case full of organized slide-in trays, you can build the storage system that works for the way you game, paint, build, and collect.
Core goes up. XL goes bigger. Case goes sideways.
Find the one that fits your collection and start printing.
