We had the pleasure of working with JJ Shankles on some YouTube Shorts for Modi Boxi. Check them out and subscribe to his channel! He takes a closer look at some of the features and design ideas that make the system work.
Here are five worth checking out.
1. Heavy Duty Game Storage Case
JJ starts big with a massive, portable Modi Boxi setup designed to carry a serious amount of gaming gear.
Despite the number of printed components, the assembly is straightforward. Parts are labeled right and left, top and bottom, and slide into their corresponding grooves. Modi Bolts of different heights rotate and lock everything together.
The finished case includes a sturdy carrying handle, rear hinges, and front latches, turning a collection of 3D-printed components into a substantial portable storage system.

2. Beautifully Complex Tipping Bins
This one shows off one of the more interesting mechanical designs in the Modi Boxi ecosystem: tipping bins.
The clever part is that the bins themselves only need two pins. The surrounding frame's geometry lets each bin rest in two positions.
Tilt it forward once for easy access to the contents. Tilt it farther, and you can pour everything out. The bins can also be made in different sizes and swapped in and out by simply rotating the pins.

3. Modi Boxi Mini Paint Storage
Miniature painters know how quickly paint bottles can take over a workspace. JJ looks at two Modi Boxi approaches to solving the problem: trays and bars.
Trays provide simple organization for different paint bottle sizes and brands. Bars take another approach, staggering bottles so you can fit a surprising number into a small area while still seeing the labels.
JJ also shows one of our favorite ways to use the system: creating a dedicated row with just the colors you need for the miniature you're currently painting.

4. Using Magnets to Protect Miniatures
Storage is one thing. Transporting painted miniatures without breaking them is another.
Here, JJ demonstrates a magnetic shelf setup for Modi Boxi. Flat 3D-printed plates become shelves, with flexible magnetic sheets cut to fit on top.
The adjustable shelf spacing is particularly useful. Short models can be packed tightly together, while miniatures with tall weapons, antennas, banners, or other delicate pieces can be given additional clearance.
Add magnets to the miniature bases and the models stay securely in place while the case is being moved.

5. Turn Modi Boxi Into a Book Holder
Finally, JJ shows how the Modi Boxi Book Holder attaches to the system, creating a convenient place for rulebooks, reference sheets, papers, or other tabletop materials.
The design uses print-friendly angles without steep overhangs and is assembled from just a handful of modular parts. Once attached, the case itself effectively becomes a portable book and paper stand.
