Trapper and Jeff from Mod Innovations headed to Rapid+TCT in Boston, MA, North America's largest Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing conference. Trapper's friend Pritesh Gandhi also tagged along, given his vast experience in manufacturing. While the vendors are focused predominantly on manufacturing and industry, there was plenty to see and people to talk to about the future of 3D printing.
We explored many of the booths, the rise of multi-head printers, and the proliferation of filament vendors pushing the envelope with new materials and applications. Our main takeaways:
- RAPID + TCT 2026 showed that multi-head and multi-material 3D printers are becoming a major trend, with faster printing, easier color changes, and more advanced capabilities now reaching mainstream buyers.
- Leading brands were showcasing entire workflows focused on speed, reliability, automation, and professional-grade output, signaling a more mature and competitive desktop printing market.
- Materials innovation was everywhere, including stronger plastics, flexible materials, integrated metals, cleaner supports, and better surface-finish options that open new product possibilities.
- For Mod Innovations, the event reinforced that the market is growing, printer capabilities are rising, and there is a strong opportunity to evolve Modi Boxi and Modi Case alongside the next generation of home manufacturing.
